Psalm 130
“O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.” Psalm 130:7
Sometimes, I like to rewrite Scripture just a bit and make it more personal. For instance, I’ve rewritten this verse to read:
O, Nina, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption!! (Notice I added two exclamation marks.)
If you’re like me you’ve got some ongoing prayers that haven’t yet been answered. Sometimes I just want to cry out to God: When are you going to redeem these years of spiritual poverty in my loved ones’ lives? When, God? I’ve been waiting such a long time!
Waiting is hard, but waiting produces faith. I’m reminded that there is hope and FULL redemption all because of God’s unfailing love. Sigh. Sometimes when I read a Scripture that’s so full of promise and truth I just have to lift my grateful head, take a deep breath and breathe out a sigh of relief that comes from deep within my soul.
There’s an art to sighing, you know. I do it well. In fact, I had a friend comment on it one time. I told her it must be a gift. There’s just something comforting about finishing a task you’ve worked hard on or working through a thought process that brings you to a happy conclusion. In the end, you take a deep breath and breathe a sigh of relief. Well done. You did it. You got through it. You figured it all out. Or, should I say God gave you what you needed and you survived it!
I, personally, need to know God has it all figured out. He knows where I’ve been and He knows where I’m going. He’s got my family’s lives all figured out, too. He’s got a plan for all those I care so much about and YES! He’s going to redeem them because He loves them. My love is nothing compared to God’s. His never fails and it’s more than enough to fill the places I can’t go in the hearts of those I hold so dear.
Verse 8 of Psalm 130 says, “He Himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.”
I can rewrite that verse, too, and insert the names of those I’m praying for. He, Himself, will do it for them! What a happy day that will be!
I’m breathing a sigh of relief. That redemption is coming AND IT’S FULL!
I think that deserves a few exclamation marks, don’t you?
